I was more in the bathroom than anywhere else. Biggest struggle was to work feeling like this. I seriously could not eat or smell anything because it had me running to the bathroom. After each meal, and even before a meal I had to go "take a run" so to speak. I lost 5kg during this time...
Nausea x 100!
Most women experience nausea, some only in the morning or night and then there is that small percent that I was part of - the all-day nausea group of mommies to be. Every day was a full fury of vomit and nausea. By week 9, things got slightly better. I will be my old self when I wake up, but when the clock hit 12, the nausea is back in full swing. Towards the end of the first trimester, the vomiting stopped and the nausea got less and less.
Tiredness
At work, my co-worker had to wake me up from my desk at times. I would actually fall asleep without realizing it. After work, I had no energy left and became a real couch potato. I use to go to bed very late at night, but by 9 o’clock I was fast asleep. I'm guessing that that was my body preparing me for the early nights with a new born.
Mood swings
Just after 8 weeks of pregnancy the mood swings started, much to the dismay of all the people around me. I was moody for no reason and best part of this symptoms… you don’t realize it at all. Believe me, only when people start walking circles around you… well then you know…
Appetite
Well, with constant nausea, my appetite was non-existent. Lucky I stopped vomiting and for some reason eating was helping with the nausea. But as the nausea lessened my appetite grew. When I hit the 11th week of pregnancy all I wanted to do was EAT. Note for mommies to be: if I say I wanted to EAT, all that was on my mind was food, I had that constant hunger feeling.
Tummy bump
Nothing...Nada...No bump...I am a very active person, so I went through all the hard and difficult symptoms with nothing to show for it. Kind of like falling of a building and not even having a bruise, hard to get people to believe you even fell.
Take good care of yourself and use supplements like folic acid (important for the development of your baby – once your pregnancy is confirmed, start using it asap) and if you over eat, overload on healthy food and drink lots of good quality water.
CHANGES IN BABY:
By the end of week 9 your baby is the size of a strawberry. Arms are growing and starting to bend at the elbows and toes are developing. So by the end of the trimester the eyelids are beginning to close and protect the sensitive eyes. Fingernails develop and the face now has a human profile… how amazing is that?!
